Studies at the Vantaa Music Institute are subject to tuition fees. If more than one child from the same family studies at the Vantaa Music Institute and/or Vantaa Art School, their tuition fees may be reduced by implementing a sibling discount. Sibling Discounts

If more than one child from the same family attends basic art studies at the Vantaa Music Institute and/or Vantaa Art School, their tuition fees may be reduced by implementing a sibling discount. Sibling discounts are applied, and granted, for one school year at a time.

Please note: the sibling discount does not apply to early childhood music education or open studies’ tuition fees.

  • For the first sibling, the discount is 25% from the tuition fee.
  • For the second and further siblings, the discount is 50% from the tuition fee.

You can apply for a sibling discount with a free-form application at the beginning of the relevant studies. Please send your application to: musiikkiopisto@vantaa.fi. The application should contain the name(s) of the relevant student(s) and the institute(s) and department(s) where the children are studying.

Terms of Payment

All tuition fees charged by the Vantaa Music Institute are charged once per semester and invoiced and paid as a single payment. Autumn semester tuition fees’ due date is in October, and for spring semester tuition fees it is in March. You are welcome to come and visit any group session once free of charge. For any further visits your will charged the full tuition fee. If a student wants to quit their studies, the institute must be notified via email at musiikkiopisto@vantaa.fi.

If a student skips three consecutive lessons/sessions without notifying their teacher, the institute considers the student in question to have quit their studies. For any studies that the student has discontinued before the semester has ended, we will charge the full tuition fee.

For any autumn-semester studies that the student has begun before the autumn holiday, we will charge the full tuition fee. For studies that the student has begun after the autumn holiday, we will charge half of the tuition fee. For studies that the student has begun after 15 March, we will charge half of the tuition fee.

Unpaid invoices and reminder fees are transferred for collection to the collection agency Intrum Justitia.

Instrument Lending

Musical studies require that each student purchases their own instrument. However, for the first study year, it is possible to loan an instrument from the music institute. If certain financial conditions are met, it may also be possible to loan certain instruments for multiple years.

Depending on the instrument, loan fees range from 73 € to 200 €. Loan fees are paid and collected in october each school year.

The loan instrument office is at our Patotie service location in Myyrmäki (Patotie 2). Its contact person is Janitor Pekka Rautiainen, tel. 050 314 6370

Please always begin by discussing the possible loan with your teacher.

If you want to borrow an instrument:

  1. Begin by contacting, and meeting with, your teacher.
  2. They will tell you what kind of instrument you need, including (for string instruments) its optimal size.
  3. If you decide to borrow the instrument, send a message to:
    musiikkiopisto@vantaa.fi, specifying:
    - Your name
    - The name of your teacher
    - The instrument you want to borrow, including its size (and other relevant details)
    - The reason why you wish to lend the instrument
  4. You will be contacted as soon as possible to inform you whether a suitable instrument is available for loan.

Our policy is that students should only lend instruments for the first study year, after which they should purchase their own instrument.

Loan agreement

When you receive the instrument, you must sign a loan agreement. By signing it, you agree to comply with its terms and conditions. If you are a minor, the agreement must be signed by your parent or guardian.

The music institute is responsible for all the basic maintenance required for the loaned instruments, and all the instruments are provided in good condition. During the loan period, you are responsible for replacing all of the instrument’s consumables and parts which may break or go missing (such as strings, bows, cases, straps, etc.) and the related replacement or repair expenses. If the instrument cannot be repaired or is lost, you must compensate its full value as indicated in the loan agreement to VMO.

The instrument must be returned to the music institute no later than on end date of the agreed loan period. At the end of the loan period, your teacher will check the instrument. If the loanee discontinues their studies at the music institute, the loaned instrument must be returned immediately.

The full loan fee of the complete school year will be invoiced in October. Paid loan fees will not be reimbursed.

Instrument insurance

Loan instruments are not insured by the Vantaa Music Institute. As the instrument’s loanee, you are liable for the instrument fully and up to its full value. The instrument’s up-to-date value is included in its loan agreement. It is up to the loanee to decide whether the instrument should be insured for the duration of the loan period.

Fee Waivers

The Vantaa Music Institute may grant tuition fee waivers to low-income families. Fee waivers are considered on a case-by-case basis. Each waiver grants a 25–90% discount from the relevant tuition fee.

Fee waivers may be granted for tuition fees paid for basic art studies and instrument lessons. Waiver applications can be submitted by low-income families who have a valid social assistance decision from KELA. Fee waivers are applied, and granted, for one school year at a time.

Please note: Fee waivers are not granted for tuition fees paid for early childhood music education or open studies.

You can apply for fee waivers for studies in the 2025–2026 academic year between 1 August and 12 September 2025. Please attach the social assistance decision from Kela. More information in the form.

If the student starts his studies in the middle of the school year, a fee waiver may be granted for the spring semester. For the spring semester, fee waiver based on social assistance decision from KELA must be applied for by Friday, January 16, 2026 at 3:30 p.m.

Financial assistance from your home municipality

If your family is having financial difficulties, it may be possible to apply for additional social assistance for children’s hobby expenses. Such additional assistance can only be granted if the family in question already has a valid social assistance decision from KELA. For more information, please contact KELA.

Hobby Support for Children and Youth

The hobby support for children and youth is intended to cover the costs of paid, guided hobbies for 7–17-year-old children and young people from low-income families in Vantaa. The goal of the support is to ensure that all children and young people have equal opportunities to participate in recreational activities, regardless of their family's financial situation.
