Principles for a Safer Space

Vantaa Music Institute follows the principles of a safer space.

This is how we act here

We listen, we do not presume

We cannot know another person’s history, background, life situation, or self-determined identity on his or her behalf. Let's be open to new sentiments and learn from others.

Respect

Everybody can participate as themselves. We respect another person’s opinions, uniqueness, inviolability, and right to be himself/herself in every respect. Everybody is valuable. Bullying and discrimination do not belong on our premises.

Giving space

Let’s give others space and peace to enjoy participating in activities. Nobody is to be disturbed. When required, ask for space for yourself, too. Making mistakes and asking questions are allowed.

Taking responsibility for our own actions

Let’s take responsibility for our own behavior, as well as for the things we say and do. We are committed to adhering to jointly agreed matters. We apologize when required. We build together a good atmosphere. We listen to and encourage others.

Intervening is OK

We do our best to make everybody feel safe. We intervene in inappropriate behavior. You can tell your teacher or another adult if something is troubling you.
