Vantaa Music Institute and Vantaa Art School are among Finland’s largest basic art education institutions. The teaching is organised by the city and primarily aimed at children and young people. The music institute has about 2,000 students and the art school about 850.

Students progress from level to level in accordance with the extensive syllabus. They can choose from different study paths, which may aim at lifelong hobbies or professional studies. The institutes are distinguished from club-type hobby activities by the goal-oriented and long-term nature of the studies.

Oiva (12), Frans (12) and Artturi (11) have been studying drums and percussion instruments at Vantaa Music Institute for over two years. The music institute has united the trio, who announce their friendship in unison. They like to play music and think that the hobby will continue into adulthood.

The boys praise the good atmosphere of the music institute. They thank the teachers for their calm, gentle and clear teaching style and for giving instructions when needed.

At Vantaa Art School, applicants are admitted in the order of registration without aptitude tests. Vantaa Music Institute will not organise musical aptitude tests this spring. Students will be selected based on an interview, considering the applicant’s overall situation. The aim is to accept all applicants as students.
